Specialized experience must also demonstrate the following: Applying materials science and engineering principles (such as metallurgy, casting, welding, or non-destructive testing) to serve as a technical expert or project lead; Leading research, development, or engineering projects to develop or implement new policies, standards, or manufacturing processes; Troubleshooting material-related manufacturing issues, performing root cause analysis, or developing engineering solutions to production problem; Authoring technical reports, providing advice to management, or communicating technical recommendations to stakeholders; Mentoring or providing technical direction to other engineers or technicians on materials-related projects.
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree (ABET-accredited) or equivalent; or current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE); or evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination; or other specified educational pathways as described (60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences with required courses); or a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field with subsequent professional engineering experience.
