To perform an extensive number of data collection functions as delegated by the physician
Communication & Patient Care
Acquire patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications
Document all the above in the electronic medical record
Notating A1C for diabetic patients
Taking manual blood pressure when necessary
Taking patient temperatures when necessary
Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks
Perform fundus photography
Perform Ocular Coherence Tomography diagnostic imaging
Retinal thickness and topography
Assessment of pupils, reactivity, confrontation fields
Fluorescein Angiography diagnostic imaging – including intravenous injection of fluorescein
B-scan ultrasonography
Visual acuity testing
Tonometry (eye pressure with Tonopen)
Applanation (eye pressure with applanator tool)
Neutralizing glasses prescription
Scribing/accurately documenting physician's exam
Assisting in minor office procedures (PRP laser, intraocular injections and Pneumatic Retinopexy)
Sterilization of instruments
Cleaning, stocking, opening/closing of exam and work up rooms
Maintaining clean work area and patient lobby
Helping and answering questions of other staff members
Helping in front office when needed
Disposing and documenting of biohazard waste
Triage
Determine which patient should be next to be taken from the waiting room and to have testing initiated
Escort all patients from the waiting room for the data collection
